Judging by the recent plot developments revealed by director Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World will be the sequel/relaunch of the beloved property that we’ve all been dreaming of. After several details about the film leaked online, Trevorrow sat down with /Film to talk about them, effectively becoming the anti-J.J. Abrams and throwing secrecy and the “mystery box” right out the window.

His comments confirmed what we had been hearing about dinosaur DNA splicing gone wrong, which leads to a mutated T-Rex/Velociraptor/Cuttlefish/Snake hybrid running wild and causing quite a scare on the new, fully functioning theme park. Here’s what Trevorrow said about the monstrosity during his interview:

“Yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.”

Today, the website JurassicWorld.org (a fan site devoted to JW news) stumbled upon an intriguing image that could potentially be concept art for this new dinosaur, dubbed the Diabolus Rex. Check it out for yourself below:

Of course, the validity of this image is unconfirmed, and it could very well be fake. However, it does appear to be the kind of hybrid that we’d expect the D-Rex to look like. Upon close examination, the photo looks a bit like an Allosaurus, though it has more of a snake-like neck and larger claws than an Allosaurus, with a head that looks very much like it came right off of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Tell us, if this is a real piece of concept art, do you like the D-Rex’s design? Or were you picturing something different for the genetic experiment gone horribly, horribly wrong? Let us know in the comments below.
