The Indominus Rex was so 2015.
To appease the park’s shrewd stockholders, the geneticists of Isla Nublar have cooked up something bigger – something a little more deadly – in the hope that visitor numbers will spike. The result? The Indoraptor, a red-eyed hybrid that looks set to become the true dino villain of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
Providing you’ve already laid eyes on the sequel’s Super Bowl teaser, you’ll know that the man-made monstrosity features an elongated snout and an abnormally large toe that can be rattled against any surface – presumably to spook or distract its prey. And though Fallen Kingdom‘s trailer ensured the Indoraptor remained in the shadows, a new figurine offers up what is perhaps our best look at the creature to date.
Should this prove to be an accurate, one-to-one representation of the so-called Indoraptor, Fallen Kingdom‘s chief antagonist will take the form of a super-sized Velociraptor with…opposable thumbs?! Feast thy eyes:
It’s a lot smaller than the T-Rex-esque Indominus, though we’re assuming that Fallen Kingdom‘s beast is far more intelligent. For instance, in the first-look teaser, it appears to be toying with its prey, so Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) will need to pull out all the stops if they’re to put an end to the Indoraptor’s reign.
On June 22nd, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stomps into uncharted territory, and barring some unforeseen disaster at the global box office, Universal plans to get the gang back together for a third and final film – one that will presumably be with us in 2021. Surely by that point Isla Nublar’s geneticists will begin to realize that hybrid dinosaurs aren’t a very good idea? We can only hope.
