As Warner Bros. continues to future-proof its prized DCEU with Joker origin stories and spinoffs featuring Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime and his muse, Harley Quinn, the Justice League are quietly waiting for their time in the limelight.
Truth be told, it’s been a long, meandering journey to release, but the film is almost here now and as we inch closer and closer to November 17th, Warner Bros. is beginning to really kick the marketing machine into high gear. That continues today with the final, and suitably epic trailer for the pic – which is set to a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
Packed to the brim with explosive action, great character moments, improved effects and tons of fun interactions between the various team members, it’s without a doubt the most promising look at the film yet and should help ease the worries of those who were still on the fence about it.
Oh, and did we mention Superman (well, Clark Kent) shows up, too? Granted, it’s just in a dream sequence and only right at the start, but still, given that Henry Cavill has been left out of much of the marketing thus far, we’re happy to see him back in the spotlight.
As for whose film this is – Zack Snyder or Joss Whedon – well, from what we see here, both directors have made their presence felt. Visually, it’s still very much Snyder, but Whedon’s writing can definitely be seen in places and though there isn’t that much humor found in this preview, it does have its moments. On the whole, though, we’d say that this is still Zack’s movie.
Justice League swoops into theaters on November 17th, when the blockbuster will become the fifth entry into the DC Extended Universe to date. But can it channel the smashing success of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman? Or will it struggle to overcome the hurdles and production woes that befell Suicide Squad? Only time will tell.
