John Wick took in $86 million back when it premiered in 2014. It was hardly a number to stop the presses, but the film quickly became a cult classic of sorts and found itself with a rabid fanbase eager to see more of the titular hitman. As such, John Wick: Chapter 2 was born, with Lionsgate hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the original.
With only a couple of weeks to go now before the film arrives, the studio has begun to kick the marketing machine into high gear, promising an explosive follow-up that will once again deliver poetic action sequences, expertly choreographed fights and, of course, Keanu Reeves kicking ass. Not to mention that the setting has been moved across seas to Europe this time around, which means that we’ll have a picturesque backdrop to watch all the excitement unfold on.
The latest piece of the puzzle when it comes to promotional material for the Chad Stahelski-directed sequel is a simple, yet effective poster that features the titular protagonist with a short fuse, implying that things are about to get lit. In other words, get ready for a balls to the wall ride when Lionsgate’s latest touches down next month. Admittedly, it’s going to be tough to live up to the original, as it was one hell of a good time, but everything we’ve seen so far from Chapter 2 tells us that the studio’s got a hit on their hands here.
John Wick: Chapter 2 shoots its way into theaters on February 10th, 2017, where it’ll face competition from The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker. Along with Reeves, it stars Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Common and more.
