Kevin Feige Says Spider-Man Wasn’t Meant To Be In The MCU Forever

You can imagine that there’s a lot of tension right now between Disney and Sony, but if that’s the case, then it seems the Marvel Studios head is trying his best not to let it show, choosing instead to celebrate the five big screen outings of Tom Holland’s web-slinger.

“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy. We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

Of course, after the recent Spider-Man: Far From Home seemingly cemented Peter’s place as one of the MCU’s core heroes going forward, it’s safe to assume Feige had further adventures in mind for the wall-crawler, be it in his next solo adventure or as part of another ensemble flick. As it stands, however, it looks like Sony is pushing ahead with their own plans for Spider-Man 3, and have already enlisted Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers to pen the script.

That being said, many fans are still holding out hope that Sony and Disney will come to an agreement that will keep Spider-Man in the MCU, and even Marvel regular Jon Favreau says he’s staying optimistic.

As for Holland, the actor recently admitted to EW that he doesn’t know what the future holds, but however things turn out, the star says that he’s going to continue playing Peter. All in all, it sounds like the Spider-Man situation isn’t resolved just yet, so stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks.
