With a production start date looming ever closer, 20th Century Fox is starting to finalize its cast for next year’s action sequel, Kingsman 2, and one early candidate for the villain role is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay star, Julianne Moore.
That’s according to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing today that the actress has opened negotiations to star opposite Taron Egerton in the film.
[zerg]One potential hitch to that plan is Moore’s jam-packed production schedule. As THR points out, the Oscar winner is attached to both Todd Haynes’ Wonderstruck and Suburbicon, George Clooney’s star-studded domestic drama that also features Matt Damon and Josh Brolin, and it’s these commitments that could ultimately prevent a deal from closing. For now, talks are reportedly optimistic.
Behind the lens for Kingsman 2 is Matthew Vaughn, who will once again be working from the graphic novel penned and brought to life by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. Such was the financial success of The Secret Service – pulling in with a worldwide haul to the tune of $414.4 million – that Taron Egerton’s involvement in its sequel has effectively placed Lionsgate’s medieval reboot Robin Hood: Origins on the back-burner, after the two productions were set to overlap.
Boasting all the makings of an “international affair,” Kingsman 2 will be dragged kicking and screaming into theaters on June 16, 2017. Production is slated to get underway in the coming months.
