We know the sequel to TMNT will feature two villainous mutants from the classic animated series in Bebop and Rocksteady, but it’s now been confirmed – inadvertently or otherwise – that they’ll be joined by another fan-favorite bad guy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows: Krang, the evil alien from Dimension X.
Rolling Stone have posted their profile of Michael Bay, who is producing the TMNT sequel, and they picked up on a very interesting interaction between the notorious director and VFX Supervisor Pablo Helman.
Pablo Helman, a visual-effects supervisor who worked on the Star Wars prequels, appears onscreen and shows Bay the latest version of Krang, a new-to-the-movies villain who is, essentially, a disembodied brain inside a giant robot. “So we’ve eliminated the tentacles,” Helman explains. “Is it too monster-ish?” “He could have some tentacles,” says Bay. “I just don’t want them coming out of the side. He looks like a stupid octopus.”
In the comics and cartoons, Krang teamed up with Shredder and his cronies to take down the Turtles, and was responsible for providing the villains with the technology needed to accomplish that task. He’s usually depicted as a pink brain-like creature inside of a larger robot host body.
Of course, it’s still unclear how he’ll factor into the film, but we’re certainly excited to see what the producers have in store for the villain.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows hits theaters on June 3.
