Nicolas Cage is enjoying his reemergence into the Hollywood sphere and the former Marvel actor is dreaming about switching teams. Cage can see himself in the DCU and honestly, James Gunn should be paying attention. Unfortunately, the new face of the DCU is very busy at the moment, so busy he hasn’t even had time to twist Warner Brothers’ arm and force the company to give us the Wonder Woman animated series we all deserve. Zachary Levi is calling for fans to reverse-review bomb Shazam! Fury of the Gods and finally Ezra Miller’s name is popping up again, but the star hasn’t gotten themself into more trouble, rather DC and Marvel fans are bafflingly pitting the recently accused Majors against the already served Miller in the world’s worst game.
Nicolas Cage still sees himself as a superhero
Nicolas Cage has stated that he would like to play another superhero at some point in the future. The actor appeared in 2007’s Ghost Rider as the eponymous titular character, and the actor has danced around a follow-up appearance for years. With Marvel actively trying to find a reboot for the character in the future, it doesn’t seem like Cage will still have a seat at the table, but the actor seems unperturbed. In a recent Reddit AMA between Cage and Renfield costar Nicholas Hoult, the actor said he would love to enter the DCU instead, this time as Spectre. A lesser-known DC hero born during the Silver Age of comic books, Spectre is an impervious antihero unafraid to make bad guys suffer for their crimes. His status as an unkillable vengeance machine puts him on par with Cage’s first superhero alter-ego, the near immortal powerhouse Johnny Blaze. With the actor experiencing a second wind in his career, it doesn’t seem far fetched that he might make an appearance in a comic book movie but the invincible Spectre might be too far fetched to make his way to the DCU.
If James Gunn has his way, we could see an animated Wonder Woman
James Gunn has developed a reputation for pellucidity. With the filmmaker actively dousing farfetched rumors daily on his Twitter page, his fanbase has decided that anything less than an outright no is a maybe. The most recent seemingly confirmed speculation revolves around a potential Wonder Woman animated series, to which Gunn replied he would love it if the project could gain traction. Warner Bros has long dominated the animated superhero conversation, so the potential is defiantly there should the studio ever green-light the project.
The argument for worst person playing a superhero has a new contender
In classic internet style, the recent allegations against Johnathan Majors have turned into a Marvel vs. DC debate. While Majors has yet to be charged, some Twitter users are already petitioning for the actor’s cancellation, citing comments made by filmmakers Majors has worked with in the past as reason enough. The discussion has fanned the flames surrounding Ezra Miller, the actor behind DC’s The Flash, with some fans wondering why the conversation around Majors wasn’t as vitriolic as that around his DCEU counterpart. The line between the two actors is very clear for the time being. Miller has pled guilty to some of the charges levied against them and has promised to get treatment for their behavior, but the star is still mired by allegations that they kidnapped and groomed an underaged person. There has yet to be any concrete evidence against Johnathan Majors, but the conversation around the Marvel-darling isn’t looking good.
Zachary Levi: harbinger of Rotten Tomatoes doom
We just can’t seem to get away from the Zachary Levi news lately. The Shazam! Fury of the Gods star took to his Instagram page to encourage fans to take on the media industry’s obsession with Rotten Tomatoes by reverse-review bombing his latest movie. While it’s easy to understand why an aggregated scoring site may not be the best way to gauge a film’s success, Rotten Tomatoes is no Ticketmaster, and heaping all of Shazam’s ample issues on the site is a stretch. Showing some serious self-awareness the actor said that, while his movie might not be perfect, it’s still an excellent pick for a night out with the family.
