This weekend’s Super Bowl might not have delivered The Marvels trailer we were expecting, but the new look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 we received instead more than made up for that by delivering a lot for Marvel fans to chew on in the run-up to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s arrival in theaters at the end of the week. For one, it may have secretly spoiled the biggest thing it could possibly have spoiled. But first…
Quantumania‘s most controversy-courting star pitches spinoff, but fans swat it down before it can fly
It’s probably not total coincidence that Hope Van Dyne has been somewhat sidelined in the marketing for Quantumania, seeing as Evangeline Lilly’s reputation online has taken a bit of a hit in the wake of her divisive anti-vax opinions. So it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Lost veteran’s pitch for Wasp to get her own spinoff was swiftly and unceremoniously shot down by fans. Especially because Lilly would want a Wasp vehicle to be super-dark, which feels a little unnecessary for the bug-themed heroine. Although, that said, Ant-Man 3 certainly seems to be taking the franchise in a more mature direction.
Wait, did the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer just reveal the biggest spoiler possible?
Given that the Super Bowl trailer only doubled down on the ominous tone touted by the first teaser, speculation over which heroes will survive Guardians 3 and which won’t has only increased since this new look arrived. Although maybe we don’t need to speculate as an easily missed detail in the trailer appears to go ahead and give the entire game away. It’s true — by the looks of things, the answer to which character will perish has already been revealed. Is everything as it appears or is this one of those times where Marvel deliberately edits trailer shots to mislead us? Honestly, we’re hoping it’s the latter.
Neither Marvel or DC fans alike spotted this surprise Suicide Squad star in their MCU debut
Sticking with the Guardians 3 trailer a moment, another sly shot featured one more thing we all overlooked, although this time it’s a lot more positive. Chukwudi Iwuji’s High Evolutionary appeared prominently in the trailer, but it turns out another DC veteran also featured in the trail — but we didn’t notice because they look totally unrecognizable. Even the most devoted of James Gunn fans failed to spot this Suicide Squad star in this inaugural glimpse at their big MCU debut, seeing as they’ve been given the full Guardians treatment and are hidden under alien prosthetics.
The French government might be saying “non non” to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but we say “Oui Oui” to more Marvel updates coming your way soon.
