All eyes in the sporting world are currently directed toward South America, where Brazil is hosting this year’s Olympics. If you’ve been keeping track of the Rio Games from the off, you’ve likely clocked eyes on the fleeting teaser for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.Â
It signalled a fresh batch of high-resolution images, too, and both info dumps were designed to drum up excitement for the latest – and potentially greatest – trailer for Gareth Edwards’ Anthology film.
Rooted in the time period between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Rogue One chronicles the death-defying journey of Felicity Jones’ vigilante Jyn Erso who, along with a crew of fellow Rebel outlaws, band together to nick blueprints for the Empire’s most fearsome weapon yet: the Death Star.
[zergpaid]It’s a fascinating pitch, one pulled from the opening crawl of A New Hope – incidentally, it looks set that Rogue One will break from tradition and forgo the iconic segment –  but it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing behind the scenes. Speculation was rife earlier this year that Edwards’ spinoff veered into choppy waters, and the moment that Disney ordered six weeks of reshoots, the Internet was sent into a tail-spin.
But don’t fret; according to Mads Mikkelsen – on board as Jyn Erso’s wayward father, Galen Erso – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story emerged the “same film” after the last-minute tinkering, most of which appears to have been handled by director Tony Gilroy in Edwards’ place.
We’ll find most, if not all of the answers when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens on December 16.
