We’ve known for a while that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is going to tug at our heartstrings, not least of all for being the final installment in the saga. Now, after some plot details emerge about James Gunn’s anticipated threequel, fans have come up with a gut-wrenching theory that they think might actually turn out to be true.
Speaking of James Gunn, the new DCU boss is continuing to have a bit of fun at the expense of diehard Superman fans by sharing tiny and insignificant snippets that don’t really narrow down anything. Moreover, John Krasinski has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of A Quiet Place: Day One, so we have a lot for you down below from around the sci-fi sphere.
Star Wars fans question the morality of Obi-Wan essentially brainwashing a teenager using the Force
Even diehard Star Wars stans might be hard-pressed to realize what scene we’re referring to here. In Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan visits a club in Coruscant as he and Anakin search for Padme’s assassin. When a youngster approaches him with the offer of death sticks, the Jedi Master uses the Force to talk him out of that profession and make him rethink his life decisions. Now, the galaxy far, far away has once again found itself in the peculiar position of having nothing better to do, so they’re wondering if that move didn’t undermine ethical principles.
In fairness, Obi-Wan only asked the man to go and rethink his life decisions, so we wouldn’t call that brainwashing in the traditional sense. Maybe he thought long and hard and decided to sell death sticks, but we can’t deny Obi came off as a bit judgmental in that situation. I know what you’re thinking; The Mandalorian season three can’t arrive soon enough.
A Quiet Place: Day One officially starts shooting as John Krasinski shares behind-the-scenes image
While we enjoy the theatrics involved in evading A Quiet Place‘s monsters, this new spinoff movie actually comes with an interesting twist. Day One is all about what happened on that fateful day when the aliens first arrived and given the franchise’s track record, we’re actually excited to dive into this project as well.
Fortunately, things are well underway on the production side of things, with John Krasinski taking to Instagram to announce that principal photography has officially started. It’s just a shame that Krasinski himself or his wife Emily Blunt won’t be a part of the ensemble this time.
James Gunn has figured out how to get back at haters and social media trolls: Troll them back!
Gunn is probably dividing his days working on the Superman: Legacy screenplay and then trolling fans with his progress on social media. He may be the subject of controversy’s cruel and indiscriminating grasp these days, but the filmmaker knows how to make light of the situation and have a bit of fun.
Indeed, after sharing several sources of inspiration for the DCU’s future in the form of comic book storylines, and that not translating particularly well among fans, Gunn is performing some complex reverse psychology by focusing on issues that won’t make it into the final script. In the case of Superman: Legacy, folks can now scratch off one such comic timeline, but in Gunn’s own words, it’s “one down, eight thousand to go.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might end in tragedy, but not the obvious kind that comes to your mind
We tend to perceive the main characters dying as the only viable form of tragic ending for Hollywood. But James Gunn is an experienced filmmaker who knows exactly how he can tug at those heartstrings of yours, so don’t go in thinking you know what’s going to make you break down crying. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, this will mostly involve Star-Lord’s intergalactic gang of misfits and their ultimate fate, but is it going to be as simple as characters getting killed off?
The film’s marketing machine wants you to believe that Rocket is going to be the one to go out on one last hurrah, but what if it’s not death? According to a fan theory on Reddit, Rocket might survive but just devolve into a regular raccoon. That will be just as tear-jerking, if not more, especially if it’s in a scenario where he won’t even recognize his team and they have to live with that loss. I don’t think we’re ready for this, folks.
