James Gunn might find redemption at the end of his new venture yet, but the Guardians of the Galaxy director has little sympathy for the SnyderVerse and the haywire mess it made out of everything. Even now, the new DCU bosses are doing everything to mitigate the damage of the disconnected cinematic universe through the introduction of things such as the Elseworlds timeline, but that’s hardly going to stop the man from showing his displeasure at every opportune moment.
Meanwhile, fans have just realized a disturbing fact about Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster, and it has ignited the conversation involving Henry Cavill’s departure as the Man of Steel into existence all over again. We have all of this and more for you including updates on Star Wars and The Last of Us in today’s roundup of sci-fi news below.
People rightly wonder how James Gunn is keeping Ezra Miller around but not Henry Cavill
It’s ludicrous to think that with all the bad press Ezra Miller is getting these days, and deservedly so, Warner Bros. has somehow decided to keep him around and get rid of Henry Cavill, whom everyone would’ve loved to see as the Man of Steel for at least another outing. But that does indeed seem to be the case as DC fans realize the Scarlet Speedster has somehow managed to outlive the Last Son of Krypton.
Of course, there’s also the possibility that Peter Safran’s encouraging words about Miller are an attempt to save his movie from boycotting and even worse, cancelation. You simply don’t get Michael Keaton back as the Dark Knight and even resurrect Ben Affleck for another ride in the Batmobile just to give it all up because one of the actors couldn’t behave. And who knows? Maybe after that, it’s off to purgeville with Ezra Miller, too.
Star Wars fans prove the stigma that there’s no satisfying them by turning their back on The Mandalorian
You’d think now that the sequel trilogy is behind us and Star Wars is on a powerful streak with successful debuts such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Tales of the Jedi, and the recent Andor, fans would give the Mouse House a break. But it seems that even The Mandalorian isn’t safe from the unrelenting skepticism involving anything Star Wars these days. Preparing for the show’s return in just a few months is a string of promo clips and featurettes, but the latest has managed to garner quite a few negative comments.
At some point, it just stops being a nonsensical stereotype and becomes fact. In this particular instance, we’re starting to believe that there’s no satisfying the galaxy far, far away fandom, regardless of the company that steers the ship.
Is The Last of Us viewership in jeopardy for the next three weeks?
Nothing is going to stop The Last of Us from taking the throne of the best television show in 2023 after that explosive third episode, and the ratings are mirroring that storytelling success by and large. If viewership is what concerns HBO, however, they’re not willing to let it show. It seems that the next three episodes of The Last of Us are going to run against the Grammys, Super Bowl LVII, and even the Oscars. It would be hilarious if people prioritized the show over those other events. Perhaps that’s what the network is even counting on. Now, that’d be something to imagine.
James Gunn absolutely annihilates the SnyderVerse, revealing exactly where he stands on the last decade of the DCU
For some reason or another, folks seem to really dig the SnyderVerse and what the director was aiming for with his Justice League. How would you explain all the ferocious fan campaigning in the past few years otherwise, and even all the hate James Gunn has been getting of late? But it seems that the DCEU’s perplexing chaos really gets to Gunn, who minced no words when recently discussing the past decade of the DCU in a chat with Gizmodo.
“The history has been sh-t,” he said. “It’s been a real f-cked up journey for DC. I think that there was basically no one minding the mint and they were giving out IP to any creatives that, you know, smiled at whoever was in charge. There was never any real power given to the people in charge.”
Gunn continues to trash Wonder Woman 1984, Joss Whedon, and Snyder’s Justice League, and even his own two tail-end projects The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, so make sure to read his thoughts in depth if you also wish to vent your accumulated DC rage.
