20th Century Fox and MGM have unveiled the second full-length trailer for the studios forthcoming horror retelling of Tobe Hooper’s 1982 chiller, Poltergeist.
This time around, Monster House‘s Gil Kenan is in the director’s chair, and it’s understood that this modern incarnation will only use the original as a touching point, rather than simply cutting and pasting all of those effective haunted house tropes from thirty years ago. Mind you, Kenan’s reboot of-sorts will still be largely situated within the confinements of one old, haunted house.
Hoping to start a new chapter in their lives, it’s Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt young couple who move into said house, which effectively tips the first malevolent domino over and instigates a whole host of spine-chilling events. It’s not long before their daughter suddenly goes missing, abducted into the realm of all-things-evil, leaving the pair with no choice but to turn to supernatural researcher and clairvoyant (Jared Harris) for assistance.
The remainder of the film’s cast will be rounded out by Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, and Jane Adams.
Poltergeist will send shivers down spines nationwide when Gil Kenan’s modern retelling looms into theaters on May 22. In the meantime, tell us, have you been spooked by the thriller’s latest trailer? Give us your early impressions down below.
