Saw: Legacy, the eighth installment in Lionsgate’s grisly horror series, may already be in the can – production officially wrapped back in November – but it’s only now that we’re beginning to get a better sense of what to expect come October.

Directed by franchise newcomers Michael and Peter Spierig, Variety brings word today that Saw: Legacy has made room in its ranks for both Laura Vandervoort and Hannah Anderson, who will no doubt cross paths with John Kramer (AKA the infamous Jigsaw Killer) when Lionsgate’s horror revival slithers into theaters. Featuring a script penned by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg – along with contributions from genre veterans James Wan and Leigh Whannell – Legacy heralds the first Saw movie in almost seven years, but Lionsgate and Co. are all set to blow the cobwebs off their dormant horror icon.

That being said, little is known about the actual story of Saw: Legacy. Tobin Bell is back as that aforementioned serial killer, so expect another round of fun and games (read: nightmares and high-pitched screaming) in a few months’ time. Elsewhere, Jon Cor (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments) is also attached to the part of Ryan, who may be one of Jigsaw’s early victims.

Now brewing in post-production, Saw: Legacy has been earmarked for October 27, 2017 in the States – select international territories will welcome Michael and Peter Spierig’s thriller in early 2018 – neatly dovetailing with that all-important Halloween corridor. Other films pegged for that same window include the long-in-development Friday the 13th reboot and God Particle, Bad Robot and Julius Onah’s sci-fi thriller that is reportedly Cloverfield 3 in disguise.
