The cast of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has grown one member stronger. Well, sort of.
Although her scenes were shot way back in 2014, we are now learning that Lauren Cohan (Supernatural, The Walking Dead) will appear in the historic film as Martha Wayne, mother of Bruce Wayne/Batman. She will appear opposite her onscreen husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Thomas Wayne, in the pivotal scene in Crime Alley that sees their characters violently gunned down before their young son’s eyes, knocking over the first in a line of dominoes that lead to his becoming The Dark Knight.
While these events have thrice been depicted in live action films in the past – most notably in Batman (1989), Batman Forever, and Batman Begins – it’s actually not a bad idea to reshoot the horrific incident with the intention to include it in the new movie. After all, many casual moviegoers are still not aware that Ben Affleck is portraying a Batman that is entirely separate from the continuity that Christian Bale occupied. This is one simple way that director Zack Snyder can get that point across to mainstream audiences.
Lauren Cohan did confirm her casting after retweeting a post made by IMDb’s account, but it seems that Entertainment Weekly was the first to get the scoop. Said tweet can be viewed below:
