The long-in-the-tooth sequel to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels’ 1994 cult comedy Dumb & Dumber just got a jolt of star quality, with news that The Walking Dead actress Laurie Holden, who played Andrea on the post-apocalyptic drama, has landed a part.
Holden, who received a Saturn Award this past year for her tense performance on the show, has been lauded as a dramatic actress since her breakout role as Marita Covarrubius on The X-Files, but Dumb And Dumber To will mark her first foray into comedy.
The actress will be playing the key supporting part of Adele Pichlow, an unhappy wife who plots to poison her wealthy doctor husband and kill her step-daughter Penny, in order to steal their money and elope with a local handyman. Holden’s unfortunate on-screen husband will be played by Steve Tom (of Funny Or Die Presents fame), and her daughter will be played by Heroes actress Rachel Melvin.
From what we know of Dumb And Dumber To, the sequel will rejoin dimwitted best friends Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels) twenty years after the chaotic events of the first film, on the road again for another misadventure. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will focus on Lloyd and Harry searching for Harry’s illegitimate daughter in hopes of securing a kidney transplant. Evidently, they’ll run into the Pichlows along the way and get caught up in Adele’s evil scheme.
In addition to those details, the Farrelly Brothers have also revealed that Kathleen Turner will be appearing in the sequel as Fraida Felcher, an ex-flame of Llyod’s who was referenced but never seen in the original film.
Dumb And Dumber To is currently filming and will be released sometime next year.
