It looks like Lionsgate is moving right along with the production of the upcoming Leatherface 3D. According to Bloody-Disgusting they are very close to confirming John Luessenhop for directing duties with Debra Sullivan, Adam Marcus and Stephen Susco penning the script. The film will act as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper‘s classic Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it will begin shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana in June.
The only other confirmed piece of information at this time is that whoever will be cast to play the lead, Heather, will be locked in for multiple sequels. Let’s hope that this new addition to the Leatherface legacy doesn’t completely mess the character up. I don’t really know how much more of these films I can stomach. The original reboot by New Line Cinemas was decent and the prequel that followed definitely delivered the goods in the gore department, but the stories got weaker and weaker. It’s going to be weird seeing a new wave Texas Chainsaw Massacre without R. Lee Ermey barking out orders!
Check out the official synopsis below:
The seventh incarnation is a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic 1974 film that follows the lead character, Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance. The spin? What would you do if you found out your cousin was Leatherface, and he was now YOURS?
Leatherface 3D doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it is rumored to come out sometime in 2013 and I am assuming that it will fall into the October slot now that Lionsgate doesn’t have Saw to carry them through the fall season.
