Soon after David Sandberg and the folks at New Line wade through the spooky origins of Annabelle, directors Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury will cordially invite horror fans on a journey back toward ground zero of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre saga with Leatherface.
Pegged to arrive in the latter stages of October – or mid-September, if you happen to have access to DirecTV – Leatherface will deep dive into the bloody history of the Sawyer family and their cannibalistic ways. Casting-wise, we know that the prequel features Jessica Madsen, Sam Coleman, Sam Strike and James Bloor as four inmates who manage to claw their way out of a mental hospital.
As fate would have it, one of them will go on to become the iconic slasher that has since inspired a generation of horror, and though Tobe Hooper’s original classic of ’84 leaves some mighty big boots to fill, today brings forth a nightmarish second trailer for Leatherface (via EW) that effectively allays fears that Bustillo and Maury are about to cut corners in the gore department. Mind you, this is the green band trailer, so if you’re wanting to view the movie in all its untamed glory, be sure to check out the official red band promo.
Also starring Vanessa Grasse, Stephen Dorff, and The Conjuring‘s Lili Taylor, the official plot description for Leatherface reads as so:
In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface.
Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury’s Leatherface slices and dices its way into theaters in time for October 20th (September 21st for DirecTV), which is just one week shy of Lionsgate’s horror sequel, Jigsaw.
