You’ll know Lenny Kravitz for his skilled musical output, flirting with Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, and for those little pirate earrings. Marvin Gaye… well, he’s the guy who guided you through countless awkward dates by means of the sexiest songs ever recorded. And now these two are set to unite, with Lenny Kravitz taking on the role of Marvin Gaye in upcoming biopic Sexual Healing (one that we hope, unlike the last four attempts, will actually get made).
Marvin Gaye, of course, is considered one of the great soul artists of all-time, though, like many of his contemporaries, he lived an often troubled and turbulent lifestyle. The biopic, to be directed by Julien Temple, will find its focus from the book Trouble Man, and will follow Gaye into the 80s, where drug addiction and industry tension were rife. Sexual Healing‘s musical rights have been reportedly sorted already, which is extremely handy, given that you wouldn’t want to make this whole thing only to find you can’t use the music.
Exactly how dark this movie will venture is currently yours for speculating upon, but given that Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his own father after a heated argument in their house means that there’s more than enough dramatic potential to fill a Motown recording studio. On potentially amusing terms, though, Gaye also lost his virginity to a prostitute (c’mon, that could be funny), which may or may not provide a hilarious prologue for the movie. However they take it, Gaye’s life is definitely worthy of a biopic.
