Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn are in talks to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s The Revenant. The project is at New Regency and is based on the Michael Punke novel of the same name.
It is being reported by Deadline that the director has met with both actors and if negotiations pan out, they will start filming in the Fall. DiCaprio is in talks to play Hugh Glass, an 1820’s frontiersman who “joins a fur trapping expedition and is so badly mauled by a bear that he’s unable to be transported back from the wilderness. He hires two men to stay behind but expecting him to die, they rob and abandon him instead, leaving him helpless. When he recovers, he is hellbent on revenge.” Sean Penn is in negotiations to play one of the men who leaves Glass to die.
Penn is currently working on The Gangster Squad and besides that, has no other projects that will keep him from doing this film. As for DiCaprio, he will film Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained from January to April, but besides that he is free for the rumoured September start of The Revenant.
We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
