After years of being stuck in developmental hell and desperately looking for a way out, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis revealed back in November 2022 that she is hopeful the much-anticipated Freaky Friday sequel is on the way. But a jaw-dropping recent announcement from star Lindsay Lohan could unexpectedly throw a wrench in those potential plans and place the sequel’s evolution on hold.
TMZ officially announced the news earlier today, where it was revealed on Lohan’s Instagram account that she and husband Bader Shammas are pregnant with their first child. For some background, Lohan and Shammas were married last year after announcing their engagement back in 2021. But despite the undoubtedly happy news, the aforementioned announcement could spell trouble for the future of the Freaky Friday follow-up.
As previously mentioned, Curtis revealed in multiple interviews that sequel discussions were “progressing rapidly” and that Disney was completely interested in crafting a long-awaited sequel to the beloved comedy hit. However, that was before Lohan’s pregnancy was publicly announced — which means that the stress and time-consuming reality of expecting a baby could shift plans in a disastrous way.
On the other hand, it’s certainly not an uncommon concept in Hollywood for actresses to work while pregnant. In fact, Scandal star Kerry Washington was heavily pregnant during the seventh season of the Shondaland show, yet the crew still made it work beyond our wildest dreams. With that said, perhaps Freaky Friday 2 will turn out to be just fine and we’ll once again witness Curtis’ Tess and Lohan’s Anna at each other’s throats.
