Per The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate and Neil Marshall’s upcoming Hellboy reboot has been delayed by a full four months, meaning that the R-rated fantasy flick will now be with us on April 12th, 2019.

That takes it out of the relatively quiet January window (and away from Glass) to place it up against Warner’s Shazam! movie, given that the latter is due to open one week earlier on April 5th. The exact reason for this extensive delay is unclear, but with New York Comic Con scheduled to begin next weekend, we readily expect some fresh intel (and a trailer, perhaps?) to emerge from the fiery depths of hell. Stay tuned for more.

One thing we can tell you with absolute certainty is that David Harbour of Stranger Things will take point as the cigar-chomping monster hunter, who partners with the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense to defend Earth from threats unknown.

And while the movie industry will always hold Del Toro’s Hellboy movies in high regard, the fact that Big Red’s creator Mike Mignola is deeply involved in the production tells us that the 2019 flick will be pretty faithful to the source material. Or at least, we hope. Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden are also credited on the screenplay, though story details are being kept under lock and key for the time being.

Also starring Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim and Milla Jovovich (Monster Hunter) as the malevolent Blood Queen, Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot will now see a release on April 12th 2019 – one week after Shazam!
