Warner Bros. is really going all out on its Barbie marketing. As part of the promotional tour for the Greta Gerwig-directed film, fans are being offered the chance to stay in Barbie’s dream house, located in Malibu, California.
Variety reports that the contest will be held on July 17 at 10PM on AirBnb. The contest is slated to be hosted by Ryan Gosling’s Ken, who’s said to be hoping to prove he’s more than “just Ken”. Two one-night stays are being offered for up to two guests. Selected winners will stay at the beach house on July 21 and July 22.
“Welcome to my Kendom! While Barbie is away, she has handed over the keys to her Malibu DreamHouse this summer and my room could be yours for the night,” the AirBnB listing reads. Bringing some much needed “Kenergy” to the house, winners will get to explore Ken’s wardrobe, learn to line-dance on Ken’s disco floor, or simply lounge by the infinity pool. They’ll also get their own pair of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and a similarly colored surfboard.
AirBnB is also reportedly donating to Save the Children, a charity dedicated to providing resources in support of girls’ confidence, to celebrate Barbie‘s release.
It’s a pretty brilliant piece of marketing. Barbie‘s production design has been revealed to be absolutely top-notch so far, with people specifically singling out Barbie’s dream house as an amazing set piece. It really speaks to Barbie‘s duality – on one hand, you have a film that’s destined for an intense number of brand deals and a huge amount of merchandising. On the other hand, you have a film that’s shaping up to really excite audiences and critics alike, and which has an Oscar-nominated director at the helm.
