Logan Has Become The Highest Grossing Movie Of 2017 Worldwide

While both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine were moderate hits, Logan has so far exceeded expectations. It’s also an approach which is paying off for 20th Century Fox in a big way, especially as Kingsman: The Secret Service and Deadpool were also critical and commercial hits. Going back to Logan, though, and the movie has today become the highest grossing release of 2017 worldwide. That’s an impressive feat and one which you have to imagine has left studio execs wishing Hugh Jackman had stuck around for a sequel. If nothing else though, it at least makes that X-23 spinoff a very real possibility.

Logan has so far pulled in a total of $438.3 million, with $152.7 million of that coming from North America and the other $285.6 million arriving from foreign markets. Incredibly, this two-week total is bigger than the entire lifetime box office total for The Wolverine, an effects driven summer blockbuster released back in 2013.

How much higher will James Mangold’s film go? Well, with Kong: Skull Island in theaters and dominating the box office and Beauty and the Beast right around the corner, the movie could struggle to earn significantly more, but there’s no way anyone at the studio is going to be unhappy with how well Logan has done thus far.
