For 17 long, long years, Hugh Jackman brought Wolverine to life with such a raw intensity that it’s difficult to imagine anyone else donning those iconic adamantium claws anytime soon. That saga, one with many ups and downs, reached its conclusion two months ago with the release of Logan, James Mangold’s poignant, R-rated finale that struck a chord with critics and X-Men fans the world over. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word of when you’ll be able to take Wolverine’s swan song home, and it’s a lot sooner than you may think.
Bundling together a range of special features – most notably the long-requested black-and-white cut – Logan is now expected to claw its way onto 4K, Ultra HD and Blu-ray on May 23rd, just one week after Mangold’s white-knuckle ride returns to select U.S. theaters in the form of Logan Noir. On that same day (May 16th), it’s understood that Wolverine’s last stand will make its debut via Digital HD, but if you’re holding out for the physical release, you’ll be pleased to hear that the special edition comes packing a nine-poster set designed to commemorate Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah.
It’s shaping up to be a must-buy for X-Men fans and Wolverine in particular, and you’ll be able to find a rundown of those special features, below.
- Logan Noir: a black-and-white version of the film
- Audio commentary by director James Mangold.
- Deleted scenes with optional audio commentary by Mangold (Blu-ray only)
- Making Logan — behind-the-scenes documentary (Blu-ray only)
Another much-requested feature is the audio commentary from writer-director James Mangold, and it’ll be fascinating to hear the filmmaker offer some additional insight into the creative process fuelling Logan. There’s also a graphic below designed to illustrate the complete Blu-ray package in all of its glory.
It’s official: Logan will be released on 4K, Ultra HD, and Blu-ray on May 23rd. But will you be adding it to your personal collection? Do let us know.
