Ever since Logan started production, black and white photographs from the movie have been released online. It even has an Instagram account dedicated to sharing them, while some lucky fans were also sent postcards featuring black and white frames from the movie’s final trailer.
Images like those provided a stark idea of the sort of aesthetic Logan director James Mangold was aiming for, but it obviously wound up hitting theaters in full colour. Of course, the fact that it’s currently the #1 movie worldwide shows that fans didn’t mind too much, but just like Mad Max: Fury Road before it, it now appears as if it will ultimately get a black and white release.
Here’s what Mangold had to say in a recent interview about the possibility of Logan being released in the monochrome format.
“It caused such an extreme reaction, and so much appreciation for these pictures, and then people immediately wondering if the film itself was going to be in black and white and so we are giving it a whirl, and I think the Blu-ray will come out with a pass on it. I think it will be a very handsome black and white version of the picture.”
It’s hard to say just how much of a difference this will ultimately make, but for diehard film buffs, a black and white version of the critically acclaimed threequel will no doubt be greatly appreciated. The fact that it will probably be included on the Blu-ray as a free addition as well also shouldn’t hurt.
