Bloody hell, governor! London Has Fallen and Gerard Butler’s hardboiled secret agent Mike Banning knows all about it in today’s new poster and teaser image for Babak Najafi’s action-packed sequel.
Arriving by way of Entertainment Weekly, the poster embraces the film’s new British setting with arms wide open. Thrusting Aaron Eckhart’s President of the United States into jeopardy once more, London Has Fallen opens on the eve of the British Prime Minister’s funeral. Attracting the top brass from nations around the globe, the event becomes a hotbed for terrorist activity, thereby calling Butler’s semi-retired Banning back from his all-too-brief holiday for another mission that involves, well, kicking ass and taking names.
Picking up the reins from Antoine Fuqua’s sleeper hit, which emerged victorious in its own box office battle with like-minded actioner White House Down, Najafi’s sequel has attracted quite the ensemble cast. It’s one that includes Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett (Rainbow Six Siege), Melissa Leo, Radha Mitchell, Robert Forster, Jackie Earle Haley, Charlotte Riley, Sean O’Bryan, Alon Aboutboul and Waleed Zuaiter. Whether it’s enough to top Olympus Has Fallen‘s $161 million box office haul remains to be seen, but so long as Gramercy Pictures’ follow-up retains the tongue-in-cheek tone, we’re confident it’ll find an audience.
Following a delay to production, London Has Fallen will bring all kinds of chaos to the streets of the English capital on March 4, 2016.
London Has Fallen begins after the British Prime Minister passes away. His funeral then becomes a target of a terrorist organization to destroy some of the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. The only hope of stopping it rests on the shoulders of the President of the United States (Eckhart) and his formidable Secret Service head, and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.
