Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen managed to emerge as the more capable of two practically-identical films released around the same time. Roland Emmerich, now heading into production on Independence Day 2, rocked up with his explosive jaunt into the same territory for White House Down. Was the deciding factor in which one would earn a sequel down to its leading men? Or was it simply a matter of brains over brawn? Whatever the reason, we’re now months away from a Gerard Butler-led sequel instead of a Channing Tatum one.
Oh, and Fuqua’s out too for the uniquely-titled London Has Fallen. In case the swapped out location didn’t alert you, this time the terrorist target has shifted from the US to the UK capital. Behind the camera this time is Babak Najafi, who is directing most of the original film’s cast including Gerard Butler as tough-as-nails Secret Service agent Mike Banning, Aaron Eckhart as President Asher, Morgan Freeman as Vice President Trumbull, Angela Bassett as Secret Service Director Lynne Jacobs, and Melissa Leo as Defense Secretary Ruth McMillan. Fresh faces to the global franchise also include Jackie Earle Haley, Alon Aboutboul, Charlotte Riley and Waleed Zuaiter.
Ahead of the movie’s debut this fall, check out a couple of new posters for the movie below, which set the stage for what we should expect when London Has Fallen opens in theaters on October 2, 2015.
The story begins in London, where the British Prime Minister has passed away under mysterious circumstances. His funeral is a must-attend event for leaders of the western world. However, what starts out as the most protected event on Earth turns into a deadly plot to kill the world’s most powerful leaders, devastate every known landmark in the British capital, and unleash a terrifying vision of the future. Only three people have any hope of stopping it: the President of the United States, his formidable Secret Service head (Gerard Butler), and an English MI-6 agent who rightly trusts no one.
