Super wealthy? Check. High spec suit? Definitely. Egotistical maniac? Not so much, but everyone always says two out of three ain’t bad! Having been introduced in Captain America: Civil War, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa is another obvious choice as a future leader. Now king of Wakanda, Black Panther knows a thing or two about what it means to hold a position of power. We haven’t seen an awful lot of the hero so far – his own film will be arriving in February 2018 – but what we were treated to in Civil War was very encouraging.
Boseman’s performance throughout tense, emotional times was great and it was impressive to see how a new character to the franchise could make such a quick mark. With this element of backstory out of the way, T’Challa goes on to show off some of that super speed and impressive strength as he battles against The Winter Soldier. There’s even time for some growth as well, with early anger being pushed aside when T’Challa perceives that he can act for a greater good. It’s a whistle-stop tour of Black Panther’s strong start to the MCU and there definitely seems to be more to come from the hero next year.
The latest trailer for Black Panther shows us that not all is well under T’Challa’s reign in Wakanda. With a potential uprising and dangerous foes to face off against, we’ll get a chance to see the character put through the ringer in greater detail. If Boseman can capture more of the regal nobility that he managed in Civil War, that’ll be a big boost to his chances of becoming the key MCU figure for the future.
We know that Black Panther will always be an exciting hero for the action aspects and the big set pieces, but it’s what he does in the more subtle touches that can truly make him the Avengers’ new leader.
