Valerian, the sprawling new sci-fi movie coming by way of Lucy director Luc Besson, has booked a place at Hall H ahead of San Diego Comic-Con kicking off late next month.

Hosting a panel on the event’s opening day (July 21 at 1PM), it’s been confirmed that Besson will premiere exclusive footage from the epic genre piece, which is currently on course for release in July of next year.

Placing Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHann in the roles of Laureline and Valérian, respectively, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets lifts inspiration from the cult comic series of the same name and according to Luc Besson’s latest Twitter post, is nearing post-production as editing begins to wrap – now comes the truckload of VFX shots that need to be finalized, with the filmmaker estimating that Valerian boasts more than 2,700 shots.

Aligned as a potential new franchise at EuropaCorp, Delevingne and DeHaan will take charge as a spacefaring pair of operatives tasked with defending “a utopian 28th century Earth and its neighboring planets from bad guys, with the pair’s adventures rooted in space opera and time travel themes.” Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rihanna and 10 Cloverfield Lane star John Goodman currently line the supporting roles.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets will make a beeline for theaters on July 21, 2017, and we can now expect to clock eyes on all-new footage late next month.
