Wonder Woman was easily the most successful DCEU movie so far, but it was missing something that would have made it even more of a treat for fans: a cameo from Lynda Carter, the most iconic actress to play the title role before Gal Gadot. As it happened, the star of the fondly-remembered 1970s Wonder Woman TV show could have been involved but wasn’t able to make it work due to scheduling conflicts.
Thankfully, then, a role in Wonder Woman 2 is very much on the cards instead. Carter was talking to Today when she revealed that she’s discussed a potential part in the sequel with director Patty Jenkins.
“That is up to Patty Jenkins. I’ve been talking to her about it. She’s given me some hints about it and I guess it’s up to Warner Bros if they want to spend the money. […] It really is up to Patty, and if it works in an organic way it’ll be great fun and it’ll be wonderful to do.”
Carter’s comments here echo what she’s said on previous occasions about possibly turning up in the pic. In particular, she’s always maintained that a cameo part is up to Patty Jenkins and is only into doing it if it works in an organic way with the film and won’t take audiences out of the story.
On the other hand, things have clearly moved forward from the last time Carter publicly spoke on the subject, as she’s now actively discussing Wonder Woman 2 with the director. Let’s hope that the pair can work something out with Warner Bros. so that the follow-up film will feature two Diana Princes for the price of one.
We’ll have to keep our ears to the ground for any more news on Carter’s potential role in Wonder Woman 2, but in the meantime, we can all look forward to seeing Gal Gadot’s heroine returns to cinema screens on November 1st, 2019.
