Deadline is reporting that The Wolf Of Wall Street breakout star Margot Robbie is in early talks for a starring role in Rupert Sanders’ Ghost In The Shell, an adaptation of the Japanese comic book of the same name. The Bill Wheeler-scripted film follows a covert ops unit that’s part of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission and specializes in tech-related crime.

Presumably, Robbie will be playing the role of Motoko Kusanagi (who will no doubt be Americanized for the film), “an augmented-cybernetic human” who leads the unit. She’s described as “strong-willed, physically powerful, and highly intelligent. She also is well known for her skills in deduction and hacking.”

This project has been kicking around for a while now, ever since Steven Spielberg acquired the rights back in 2008. Since then, the script has gone through several iterations and various directors have flirted with it. Now, with Sanders and Robbie all set, the film should start to pick up traction soon. It’s a good thing, too, as this particular property has quite a large fanbase who I’m sure are eager to see their beloved comic adapted for the big screen.

We’ll of course keep you posted once we hear more, but for now, tell us, are you interested in seeing Margot Robbie lead Ghost In The Shell? Sound off below!
