In the aftermath of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, Marvel fans were clamouring for the studio to announce a standalone Hulk film in the wake of Mark Ruffalo’s maiden performance as the troubled Bruce Banner. Fast forward two years and it seems as though the actor himself is vying to be part of another colossal franchise, Star Wars.
Specifically, Ruffalo wants to play a part in Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, and even sent the following e-mail to the director:
“Rian, congratulations on everything you’ve been doing. And by the way, if there’s a part in Star Wars, please, anything, please consider considering me to join you.”
Having worked with the filmmaker on his second feature film, The Brothers Bloom, back in 2008, Ruffalo is clearly trying to renew old bonds in an attempt to land a role in the sequel — I mean, if you had Rian Johnson’s e-mail, wouldn’t you chance your arm too?
Of course, while it’s unlikely that Johnson would cast Ruffalo in one of Episode VIII’s starring role, it’s entirely possible that the director would choose to recruit the current Bruce Banner for a motion capture performance.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is pegged to release in 2017 under Lucasfilm’s current publishing model — which alternates between an entry into the rebooted trilogy and a spin-off movie with each passing year.
