The rumor mill is buzzing with whispers that Ryan Gosling is on the verge of landing his first role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
DrAwesomeX took to the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit to share the delicious gossip that the Barbie star may be joining the MCU. They posted a sensational if cryptic tweet from Can We Get Some Toast, an account known for leaking Marvel scoops, which seemed to suggest Gosling was on his way to Marvel-Land.
Fans were delighted to speculate about which role Gosling was most likely to star in. Unsurprisingly, the first suggestion out of the gate is the vintage anti-hero Robert Reynolds a.k.a. Sentry. The project has allegedly been in development at Marvel Studios since last December, with Henry Cavill tipped as a fan favorite for the part.
Other fans could not hide their excitement at the prospect of Gosling as an MCU character. ConnerWithAnOYup is confident that Gosling will be the greatest Marvel superhero ever.
Not everyone in the thread is convinced that Gosling is a shoo-in for the role of Sentry. In Redditor PeterCampisi’s view, Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard is better suited for the part, while they think Gosling is more likely to play Ghost Rider.
Other fans, like LittleBiped, had their hearts set on Gosling playing the diametrical opposite of an adversarial figure, taking over James Marsden’s former role as Scott Summers/Cyclops in X-Men. However, they admitted they would be equally content to see him play Richard Rider/Nova.
There’s no doubt that fans are here for whatever role Gosling may take on in the MCU. For now, the suspenseful wait for confirmation from the studio continues.
