He’s the lifeblood of the MCU and one of the reasons why Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut continues to push the envelope even after 10 years and 20 installments (see: Black Panther), and on January 19th, 2019, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige will receive the 2019 David O. Selznick Achievement Award.
Announced by the Producers Guild Of America (PGA) earlier this morning, this prestigious award will recognize Feige’s exceptional contribution to the film industry, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe being a prime example of his prolific output. He’s helped launch the MCU to the tip-top of Hollywood’s box office charts ($17 billion and counting), so it’s only fitting that Feige’s incredible track record receive the recognition it deserves early next year.
In a statement, Marvel’s über-producer thanked his colleagues and the wider MCU family:
To join so many of my heroes and mentors in receiving the David O. Selznick Award is one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I’m truly thankful to my colleagues in the Producers Guild of America for this recognition. I want to also thank my Marvel Studios family, who have been with me every step of the way and without whom I would never have had this amazing journey.
Kevin Feige initially became president of Marvel Studios back in 2007, where he launched a new (and risky!) initiative for the company: make their own content, beginning with the release of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man movie. Its success proved to be a tipping point for not only Marvel, but Robert Downey Jr., too, who’s now widely considered to be the face of the MCU and the Avengers. And what a journey it’s been.
The 30th Annual Producers Guild Awards air on January 19, 2019, and we’ll certainly be tuning in to see Kevin Feige receive his award. Will you?
