Marvel’s worst-reviewed movie is now being used to bash ‘The Flash’ VFX

Which did super-speed better?

The Flash is now in theaters and lives up to its promise of a truly bonkers trip through DC’s cinematic history. We won’t spoil every surprise in the movie, though there’s a truly star-studded list of cameos stretching right back to DC’s earliest days on screen, as well as pushing forward the overall DCU story.

But for many, there’s a substantial fly in the ointment. The VFX is notably under par for what we’ve come to expect from a superhero blockbuster, with the film likely the victim of late changes in production and impacted by the staffing and pay crisis crippling many top VFX workshops.

Die-hard Marvel fans have taken note, archly pointing to a sequence in Eternals to show Barry Allen how to do super speed right:

Eternals is not without its flaws, though it’s hard to pick holes in its effects. Fans instantly picked up on why this sequence would be posted now:

Did we misjudge Eternals?

But a certain Fox X-Universe speedster also should be noted:

Even a previous superspeed moment from Miller himself is used as a better example of how to do this effect:

The Flash is ultimately a very fun movie with some neat twists and turns, though having seen it, we can’t deny that there are some truly awful FX shots scattered throughout it. Then again, this film was already delayed so much we suspect Warner Bros. was just eager to finally get out of the door so it can begin focusing on the new James Gunn-era DCU.

Maybe it’s too much to hope that the home release will polish The Flash VFX a little, but at this point, it’s destined to go down as a fun but visually choppy superhero romp.
