Mass Effect Movie Gets A New Writer

Although the ending of Mass Effect 3 left loyal fans feeling betrayed, disillusioned and ready to charge the BioWare H.Q. with flaming torches and razor-sharp pitchforks, yelling things like "Change it! Change it!", they can still look forward to the upcoming Mass Effect movie (well, if the ending is good, that is) since they've hired a new writer.

Although the ending of Mass Effect 3 left loyal fans feeling betrayed, disillusioned and ready to charge the BioWare H.Q. with flaming torches and razor-sharp pitchforks, yelling things like “Change it! Change it!”, they can still look forward to the upcoming Mass Effect movie (well, if the ending is good, that is) since they’ve hired a new writer.

It’s just been announced that newcomer (and self-declared Mass Effect fan) Morgan David Foehl will take over from Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), who wrote the apparently not good enough first draft.

For those who don’t know, the Mass Effect games are based around the actions of one Commander Shepard and his ongoing attempts to save the galaxy against a race of mechanical baddies called Reapers. You heard that right: the galaxy. This guy isn’t messing around with just a planet or two.

The games are renowned for their depth and storylines that morph around your decisions. The movie will leave that decision morphing part out, presumably, because that kind of thing is still a few years away. Hopefully the depth will remain in tact, though. We like depth.

What do you think? Excited about the potential of a Mass Effect movie? How about the fact that a fan has been given a chance to write it? Let us know in the comments section below.
