After the mental gymnastics we had to perform a few years ago in order to understand Christopher Nolan’s latest film Tenet, our attention is now firmly fixated on the acclaimed director’s next cinematic outing, Oppenheimer.
One of the film’s stars, Matt Damon, has already seen the movie, and could only gush about Nolan’s upcoming film while speaking with Variety. Damon stars alongside Cillian Murphy in the titular role, as well as Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh.
Damon confirmed the film’s three hour runtime, but insisted that it didn’t feel like a drag. The star double checked the runtime with Christopher Nolan after his viewing, and was shocked to discover that the film was indeed that long, saying “it goes by so fast.” He also commented on the performance of the film’s lead, Cillian Murphy:
“Cillian [Murphy] is everything you’d want him to be. He is phenomenal.”
Needless to say, Damon’s words of praise are getting us pretty eager to see the film for ourselves. For now, we’ll have to settle for the film’s first trailer. Only a few more months to go!
The story of the father of the atomic bomb, Oppenheimer, will land in theaters on July 23, 2023. If you’re curious about what you’re getting yourself into with Nolan’s historical epic, you can catch yourself up on the true story of Robert Oppenheimer here.
