5) The Treatment
If you’ve seen and loved Prisoners, then bump The Treatment up on your must-watch list immediately. Based on Mo Hayder’s novelization, this Dutch criminal thriller strips humanity down to sick, twisted perversion. Prisoners is deep and weighty, but you feel horrors in The Treatment that rattle your very core. Child cases always hold chilling realities, and Hans Herbots’ direction leaves none of those ravished emotions to question.
What we get is a disturbed cop, a sinister case, and how they both tie together. Lead actor Geert Van Rampelberg leads us down a dark, relentless rabbit hole into the mind of madness, to a villain with blurred intentions. One simple moment unleashes a squealing hell upon viewers, but it’s the entire case that keeps viewers attently fixated. There’s nothing to enjoy about this bastard mystery, but everything to praise – no matter how sick things get.
The Treatment brings viewers closer to the Devil’s workings than you’d ever want to get – and dammit does it pack a punch.
