Megan Fox is keen to follow in the footsteps of her Transformers co-star Shia LaBeouf and have a crack at the Indiana Jones franchise – but as the famed archeologist himself, as opposed to a supporting player.
Word comes by way of GameSpot, who spoke to the actress ahead of her part in blockbuster sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, where she’ll be reprising her role of seasoned reporter April O’Neil. Beyond that, Fox noted that donning the whip and fedora as Indiana Jones would actually be her second choice, behind Tomb Raider‘s own iconic archeologist Lara Croft.
Per GameSpot:
“I’ve always wanted to do Tomb Raider, but it’s been done–and very well. So I guess I’d go with Indiana Jones, since I always loved how fun and free-spirited Indiana is. He’s an adventurous rogue archaeologist who barely escapes death chasing down treasures among the earth’s most mysterious sites. What’s not to love?”
Alas, now that both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg have been confirmed to return for Indiana Jones 5 in 2019, not to mention the recent casting of Jason Bourne star Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, it appears that Fox’s dream roles are all but snapped up – for now.
Shortly before Disney issued the go-ahead on Indy 5, there had been rumors that the House of Mouse was primed to welcome new blood into the beloved action-adventure series, with Chris Pratt seemingly a shoo-in to pick up the mantle as Jones himself. And though a gender-swapped version in the vein of Ghostbusters never truly picked up steam – save for an NBC sketch that featured Anna Kendrick as “Indianna” – it would have made for an interesting proposition. So long as it was a well executed idea, as opposed to simply change for the sake of change.
Megan Fox can next be seen in June’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Indiana Jones 5, meanwhile, has been dated for July, 2019.
