Sony Pictures is putting together quite a respectable cast for The Equalizer, which will be directed by Antoine Fuqua. Based on the ’80s TV series of the same name, the film already stars Denzel Washington and Chloe Moretz, who joined not too long ago. Now, the studio is looking to reunite Fuqua with his Olympus Has Fallen star, Melissa Leo.
Washington is set for the title role of Robert McCall, “a retired covert operative who, seeking redemption for his dark deeds, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an advertisement in the paper that reads simply: Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.” Leo will place McCall’s former handler. In the film, “she provides him with intelligence about who he is facing when he runs up against a new adversary.”
So that’s two Oscar winners (Washington and Leo) on board plus Chloe Moretz, who will no doubt also add an Academy Award to her list of accomplishments in the coming years. That’s a pretty fantastic cast and with that caliber of talent that is already signed on, you can bet that some more A-list names will join the film in the coming weeks.
Personally, I’m not familiar with the show that the project is based on but I do like the talent that Sony has put together for this one. It seems like a great role for Washington and with Leo and Moretz supporting him, plus his Training Day director behind the camera, I can’t see much going wrong.
The Equalizer will head into production next month in Boston, we’ll let you know when we hear more. In the meantime, tell us, what do you think of Melissa Leo joining the cast?
