We’ve been introduced to Callum Lynch and his long-lost ancestor, Aguilar; we’ve taken a deep dive into the Animus, the crown jewel of Abstergo Industries that enables users to essentially relive different historical epochs in the blink of an eye; but now, 20th Century Fox and New Regency have unlocked the latest Assassin’s Creed promo that sees lead hero Michael Fassbender give chase.
Those of you who tuned in to The Game Awards 2016 yesterday evening will have no doubt laid eyes on the clip already – likely multiple times, given the sheer amount of ad breaks – but it’s an electrifying teaser nonetheless. Entitled ‘Carriage Chase,’ this promo looks to have been pulled from one of the movie’s key action sequences, as Fassbender’s deadly assassin tracks down a missing boy being held against his will.
Much digital ink has been spilled regarding the intense action scenes of Assassin’s Creed, after director Justin Kurzel stressed how the VFX and stunt team are committed to delivering potent set-pieces that are as dynamic as they are exciting. Here’s hoping that vision carries over to the silver screen, where Fassbender will be flanked by an all-star cast including Macbeth‘s Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, Charlotte Rampling, Matias Varela, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams.
“We work in the dark to serve those in the light.” Assassin’s Creed will swoop into theaters on December 21. If all goes according to plan, it could well signal the beginning of a newfound action franchise for 20th Century Fox and New Regency, and Justin Kurzel and Michael Fassbender are said to be rustling up a handful of sequel ideas already.
