Michael Pena Hints That Ant-Man 3 Is On The Way

Edgar Wright being kicked off Ant-Man was undoubtedly a huge blow to fans, but I think most can agree that Peyton Reed did a pretty good job with it, delivering a fun, humorous and perfectly enjoyable MCU outing. So, while it's not exactly top of my list of films to see this year, I'm still paying close attention to what's happening with Ant-Man and the Wasp. With Avengers: Infinity War releasing just a couple of months prior, the pic is being overshadowed a bit in terms of hype, but now things sound as if they're finally gearing up.

Though it remains unconfirmed, we’ve already heard that the sequel will begin with Scott Lang on house arrest. Still reeling from the events of Civil War – remember, just like Spider-Man: Homecoming before it, Ant-Man 2 will seemingly take place in the fallout of Marvel’s 2016 crossover – Paul Rudd’s hero is said to be enjoying more time with his daughter Cassie, though is quickly pulled back into the fray once he catches wind of Hope and Hank’s new mission.

Sounds like it’ll be another thrilling adventure for the titular hero then, and if Michael Pena is to be believed, it also won’t be his last. That’s because according to the actor, who plays Luis in the franchise, there may be a third Ant-Man film in the works. Speaking to IGN to promote 12 Strong, he discussed what it was like working with fellow MCU star Chris Hemsworth, dropping a pretty big hint in the process.

“We talked about it on the first day. It’s a whole different kind of club to be in, the Marvel Universe. I don’t know if they’ll use me for the third movie, I still really don’t know. It’s cool to make a little bit of a mark on that Marvel Universe and it’s kind of a cool club, they run a really cool studio.”

Now, this shouldn’t be taken as confirmation that Marvel’s building a trilogy for the character, but it does seem like that’s the direction they’re headed in – which bodes well for Reed’s upcoming sequel. After all, if the studio is already planning a third outing, they must have faith in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Then again, there’s always a chance of it failing to perform at the box office, which might have Marvel thinking twice. But for now, at least, it certainly sounds like a trilogy is on the cards and given how enjoyable the first film was when it scurried onto the big screen back in 2015, that’s music to our ears.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will crawl into theaters on July 6th.
