Michael Shannon Might Pull An Andy Serkis For Man Of Steel

A very distant, shady, unconfirmed picture of Michael Shannon on the set of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel leaked over the weekend, and in said picture, he is covered in those little magic dots that we know indicates some sort of serious motion-capture CGI. Shannon is playing General Zod in the Superman film, a Kryptonian who is one of Superman's most prominent enemies and wears spiky, black steel.

Of course, this picture of Shannon is taken from behind, and as much as I love him, I can’t confirm based on his backside alone that this is the man himself. The fellow in the picture does look like Michael Shannon though, or at least like someone who could be his stunt-double.

While it doesn’t seem like making a legitimate General Zod costume would be that difficult, if I learned anything from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, it was that motion-capture is a miracle. And if the whole world learned anything from Avatar, it’s that technology will be replacing common sense in film from here on out.

Hopefully, Shannon will look awesome. They used a fair amount of CGI in Iron Man, which involved a lot of similar costuming, and everything in Iron Man seemed pretty spotless to me. I’m not too worried about how General Zod could look in Man of Steel, how about you?

Check out the two images below:

The first is of General Zod fighting Superman in a 2004 comic illustrated by Jim Lee.

What do you think? Should they be going with motion capture?
