When a film receives a last-minute delay in the vein of the Wachowski’s Jupiter Ascending, it’s tricky for studios to market the movie all over again in the build-up to release without leaving members of the audience feeling a little jaded. Initially due to arrive during the primetime summer months, Warner Bros. pushed the space-faring adventure all the way back to February to give VFX artists adequate time to render the filmmakers’ grand, galactic vision.
And today, the studio pulled a double whammy by unveiling a new international trailer all the while releasing a selection of beautiful stills that hint at some of the locales we can expect when the film finally debuts early next year.
Starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, Tuppence Middleton, Douglas Booth and Sean Bean, Jupiter Ascending tells the tale of Kunis’ everyday, earthbound girl who dreams big. Unbeknownst to her, her Jupiter Jones turns out to be the fabled ruler of a galactic kingdom thanks a rare genetic signature.
It may not be the most original of tales, but with Andy and Lana Wachowski behind the camera, the sci-fi epic is already shaping up to be one of the most visually stunning films hitting theaters next year.
Jupiter Ascending will arrive in theaters on February 6th, 2015.
Jupiter Jones (Kunis) was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people’s houses and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along—her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.
