Filming on Mission: Impossible 6 has been postponed to accommodate Tom Cruise’s “serious” on-set injury.
The series mainstay and all-around daredevil was filmed in apparent pain yesterday when a London rooftop stunt went awry. Footage captured by TMZ showed Cruise leaping between two buildings while attached to a safety harness, though the actor seemed to mistime his jump, resulting in him slamming his chest against the concrete. The 55-year-old managed to pull himself up, but we’re now learning that the injury is more serious than initially feared.
At least, that’s according to The Sun (via Screen Rant), after the UK tabloid relayed a report claiming that Tom Cruise will need “months to recover” for what is a “serious” injury. Neither Paramount Pictures nor director Christopher McQuarrie have released any formal statement to support these claims, and given The Sun’s spotty track record, it’s best approaching these allegations with a heightened sense of caution.
With that said, TMZ’s footage clearly showed Cruise in a lot of pain, so we’re just waiting to hear official word on how long the actor has been sidelined for. Ever the one to perform his own stunts – be it scaling the Burj Khalifa or performing a zero-gravity sequence for The Mummy – we’re quietly confident that Tom Cruise will be back in the saddle in no time, but the real question is whether this on-set accident will impact M:I 6‘s current release date.

The injury is worse than was at first feared. Tom did serious damage and will need months to recover. He is the film’s biggest star and everything revolves around him. The movie’s bosses had no choice other than to postpone the filming.
Also starring Sean Harris, Alec Baldwin and Michelle Monaghan as Julia Meade, Mission: Impossible 6 will report for duty on July 27th, 2018. One cast member who isn’t involved in Christopher McQuarrie’s sequel whatsoever is Jeremy Renner, who has seemingly traded the IMF for the MCU ahead of his appearance in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
