When fans first flocked to theaters to see Mission Impossible in theaters in 1996, they couldn’t have imagined they’d be at the beginning of an adventure that would span several decades, travel across many continents, and introduce us all to unforgettable characters for several films to come.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is the latest installment of the Tom Cruise-led franchise, and if critics’ reviews are anything to go by, this one is going to be something special. Currently sitting at 98 percent via Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, Dead Reckoning Part One might just be the cinematic experience we’ve been waiting for all summer.

The synopsis for the latest MI film highlights that this might be the most polarizing mission Ethan Hunt has ever experienced, forcing him to face the idea that his life doesn’t leave a lot of room for anything but work or for placing importance on anything but the assignment in front of him.

“Ethan Hunt and the IMF team must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than the mission — not even the lives of those he cares about most.”

With several films recently underperforming in the face of high expectations — even if we think the critics got it wrong a time or two (how amazing was Elemental, and how fantastic was Dial of Destiny), these recent statements regarding Dead Reckoning Part One have moviegoers looking forward to stepping into theaters with a soda and popcorn.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is calling viewers to theaters on July 12, and you won’t want to miss a moment of the exciting new journey for Hunt.
