At four films in, it’s almost common knowledge that actor-slash-daredevil Tom Cruise tends to perform the majority of his own stunts as IMF super-spy Ethan Hunt. Whether it’s hanging from the Grand Canyon without a care in the world, or scaling the Burj Khalifa, Cruise is about as bold as they come. And so, for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, both he and director Christopher McQuarrie wanted to up the ante; a ploy that involved Cruise hanging from the side of an Airbus A400M at 5,000 feet.
Filmed in Peterborough, England, the stunt is a true marvel to be hold, and today Paramount has unveiled a brief snippet from behind the scenes that shows Cruise being strapped in prior to take off. In total, the sequence took 8 takes to capture in full, with the actor even admitting that he was “scared shitless.” And let’s face it, if Tom Cruise was scared shitless, then we ought to stand up and take notice.
As for the film itself, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will see Ethan Hunt and his crew of highly-skilled IMF agents hunted by the titular spy group, who set out to seek and destroy the team by any means necessary. Joining Cruise in the globe-trotting adventure are Rebecca Ferguson, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, and Sean Harris as the central antagonist.
Following a bump from its traditional Christmas window, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation will rappel into theatres on July 31.
With the IMF disbanded, and Ethan (Tom Cruise) out in the cold, the team now faces off against a network of highly skilled special agents, the Syndicate. These highly trained operatives are hellbent on creating a new world order through an escalating series of terrorist attacks. Ethan gathers his team and joins forces with disavowed British agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), who may or may not be a member of this rogue nation, as the group faces their most impossible mission yet.
