Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was a very divisive movie, and regardless of whether you loved or hated it, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that Warner Bros. must have been massively disappointed by both the critical and commercial response (an adaptation pitting the Dark Knight against the Man of Steel failing to reach $1 billion is downright embarrassing).
Now, the fallout from the reception to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice continues, as a new report reveals that producer Charles Roven – who has been working on DC Comics adaptations since Batman Begins in 2005 – will no longer serve in that capacity on movies like Aquaman and The Flash. Studio sources claim it’s a time issue because he can’t be everywhere at once, but common sense says that Warner Bros. aren’t too happy with the guy who was on set every day allowing Zack Snyder to make the creative and financial decisions he did.
[zergpaid]Further proof of this comes from the fact that despite Roven still being involved with Justice League, new DC Films head Jon Berg has been sent to the London set in order to oversee the day to day running of the movie, while Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns’ role from a creative standpoint was also recently increased.
Roven is going to continue having a hands-on role with DC Comics adaptations already in production like Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, but it’s clear that this is yet another move by the studio to shake things up as they look to course correct and make up for the way Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was received back in March.
