Paul Feig’s upcoming female-led comedy, Spy, has just picked up two new actresses today in the form of Morena Baccarin and Allison Janney. Already set to star Melissa McCarthy, the film is set for a Memorial Day 2015 release and boasts an impressive ensemble that consists of Jason Statham, Rose Byrne, Jude Law, Bobby Cannavale, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Miranda Hart.
Plot details on this one haven’t been made public yet, but we do know that it’s set to be an espionage comedy that follows the misadventures of McCarthy’s Susan Cooper, a James Bond-esque secret agent. As for who the two new additions will be playing, Janney is set for the role of CIA agent Elaine Crocker, who is “tough but has a biting sense of humor.” Baccarin, meanwhile, is taking on the part of one of the agency’s top spies, who is described as being “extremely deadly.”
If there’s anyone who can deliver a side-splitting female-led comedy, it’s Paul Feig. With efforts like Bridesmaids and The Heat under his belt, the director has proven to us that the funniest people in Hollywood aren’t always men. Here, he’s written the script as well and will once again be teaming up with McCarthy (their third outing together). Throw in a great supporting cast that all bring something unique to the table, and you have the recipe for another comedic hit from the much in-demand duo of Feig and McCarthy.
Production on Spy is currently underway in Budapest. If anymore casting updates should arise, we’ll be sure to let you know.
